Volkswagen Debuts the All-New Passat Pro Sedan at Chengdu Motor Show

Volkswagen has revealed the all-new Passat Pro sedan at the Chengdu Motor Show in China, marking the latest generation of the iconic sedan. The Passat Pro, built by SAIC-VW and FAW-VW, boasts cutting-edge technology, luxurious features, and a powerful engine lineup, making it a standout in the large sedan segment.

Key Highlights:

  • The Passat Pro sedan is over five metres long with a spacious 2,871mm wheelbase.
  • It comes with a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine producing 217hp.
  • Features three digital screens, including a 15-inch infotainment display.
  • Equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) developed by DJI.
  • Luxurious interior includes “cloud feeling” seats with heating, cooling, and massage functions.

The All-New Volkswagen Passat Pro Sedan: A Look at the Future

The new Passat Pro sedan borrows its front styling from the Passat Wagon sold in Europe, but that’s where the similarities end. With a longer wheelbase and design inspired by Volkswagen’s latest SUVs, like the India-bound Volkswagen Tayron, the Passat Pro delivers a bold and commanding road presence.

A True Full-Size Sedan

Measuring over five metres in length, the Passat Pro is larger than many of its competitors, including the Toyota Camry. Its 2,871mm wheelbase offers ample legroom for both front and rear passengers, ensuring a comfortable ride on long journeys. The FAW-VW Magotan, which shares the platform, has a similar wheelbase but is slightly shorter in length.

A Tech-Forward Interior

Inside, the Passat Pro is packed with cutting-edge technology. It features a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a massive 15.0-inch central infotainment screen, and a third 11.6-inch screen for the front passenger. Additionally, the sedan offers a head-up display with augmented reality, a premium 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and a DJI-developed ADAS suite for enhanced safety.

Luxurious Comfort

Passengers can enjoy a premium experience with “cloud feeling” seats that offer electric adjustment, heating, cooling, and massage functions. The ambient lighting setup features 30 color options, and there’s even an in-car fragrance system to elevate the overall experience.

VW Passat Pro Sedan Powertrain and Performance

The Volkswagen Passat Pro is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 217hp and 350Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. While a lower-spec 1.5-litre TSI engine may be introduced later, the focus remains on delivering a dynamic driving experience. Notably, there are no electrification options planned for the Passat Pro at this stage.

Not for India, but Influences Ahead

Unfortunately, the Passat Pro sedan will remain a China-only model, with no plans to launch it in India. However, Indian buyers can look forward to the arrival of the Volkswagen Tayron SUV, which shares its design language, platform, and several key features with the Passat Pro.

Conclusion

The Volkswagen Passat Pro sedan sets a new standard for large sedans with its blend of cutting-edge technology, luxury features, and powerful performance. Though exclusive to China, it represents Volkswagen’s commitment to innovation and design that will influence future models.
