In September 2024, India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturers—Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company, and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI)—witnessed remarkable year-on-year (y-o-y) growth in sales. With a collective rise in domestic and export numbers, the industry is poised for a continued positive trend. Here’s a detailed report on their performance.

Bajaj Auto reported cumulative two-wheeler sales of 4,00,489 units in September 2024, which includes both domestic and export figures. This reflects a 22% y-o-y growth, compared to 3,27,712 units sold in the same period last year. Domestic sales saw a significant 28% y-o-y rise, while exports increased by 13%. Year-to-date (YTD) two-wheeler sales for Bajaj also showed a 12% growth, with 1,984,125 units sold.

TVS Motor Company Sales

TVS Motor Company achieved 4,82,495 units in total sales in September 2024, reflecting a 20% y-o-y increase compared to September 2023. Of this, 471,792 units were two-wheelers, showcasing a 22% y-o-y growth. Domestic sales surged by 23%, reaching 369,138 units, while the company saw a 42% increase in electric vehicle (EV) sales, with 28,901 EVs sold. Two-wheeler exports rose by 19%, with 102,654 units shipped internationally.

Hero MotoCorp Growth

Hero MotoCorp led the two-wheeler market in terms of volume, selling 6,37,050 motorcycles and scooters in September 2024. This represents a 19% y-o-y growth. In the first half of FY 2024, Hero sold 3,054,840 units, marking a 10% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Exports from April to September 2024 also grew by 30%, further enhancing the company’s overall performance.

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Sales

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India recorded 5,83,633 units sold in September 2024, marking an 11% y-o-y growth. Domestic sales accounted for 5,36,391 units, while 47,242 units were exported, showing a 34% increase in exports compared to September 2023. The brand’s YTD sales from April to September 2024 were 2,881,419 units for domestic markets and 2,76,958 units for exports.
