Triumph Speed Twin 1200 Line-up: Design and Features
The 2024 Speed Twin 1200 models bring a fresh look to the iconic series. The updated bikes now feature a sleeker design, borrowing the LED headlight from the Speedmaster. New engine casings, inverted shock absorbers, and slimmer exhaust mufflers also contribute to the modernized appearance.
A significant update is the inclusion of twin digi-analogue dials, which have now been replaced by the LCD from the Trident 660. Both variants also come with new switchgear, USB-C charging, and a range of color options. While the standard model offers white, red, and silver colors, the RS comes in striking black and orange paint schemes. Additionally, Triumph provides a range of factory-supplied extras, like clip-on bars and solo seats for those seeking a café racer look.
Triumph Speed Twin 1200: Performance and Technology
Both the Speed Twin 1200 and the RS are powered by the same liquid-cooled, 1,200cc parallel-twin engine. This engine now boasts a sportier tune and a higher redline of 8,000rpm, producing 105hp and 112Nm of torque. The power is delivered smoothly through a 6-speed gearbox, with the RS variant featuring a bidirectional quickshifter for effortless gear changes. Unfortunately, this quickshifter is exclusive to the RS variant due to differing footpeg placements on the standard model.
Ergonomics and Handling: Standard vs. RS
The two variants differ in their ergonomic setups. The standard Speed Twin 1200 features a more relaxed, rider-friendly design, with handlebars positioned higher and closer to the rider. It also offers a slightly lower seat height (805mm), making it accessible for riders of various heights.
The RS variant, on the other hand, is designed for sportier handling. It has a more aggressive riding position, with lower handlebars and higher footpegs, as well as a taller seat height (810mm). The RS also features a fully adjustable Marzocchi fork and Ohlins rear shocks, ensuring superior performance in dynamic riding conditions. Brembo Stylema calipers further enhance the braking power on the RS variant.
