The New Mini Convertible will be produced at Oxford plant after 9-years.
Mini has once again caught the spotlight with the release of the all-new Mini Convertible. Just eight months after the debut of the fourth-generation Cooper hatchback in petrol form, the Convertible has entered international markets, rekindling excitement among car enthusiasts.
Key Highlights:
- Two turbo-petrol engine options: 1.5-litre with 163hp and 2.0-litre with 204hp, both mated to dual-clutch automatic transmissions.
- Fabric roof functionality: Opens in 18 seconds, closes in 15 seconds, and partially opens to mimic a sunroof.
- Enhanced interior experience: Features a 9.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, available in three trim levels.
- Performance comparison: Convertible S hits 0-100 kph in 6.9 seconds, just 0.3 seconds slower than the Cooper S hatchback.
- Increased boot space: With the roof up, boot space is 215 litres, decreasing to 160 litres when the roof is down.
What Makes Mini Convertible Unique?
The new Convertible, now produced at Mini’s historic Oxford factory in the UK, marks the brand’s return to local production after nine years of manufacturing in the Netherlands. The model comes with two exciting turbo-petrol engine options: a 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine generating 163hp in the Convertible C variant, and a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine packing 204hp in the Convertible S variant. Both are paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard.
One of the most talked-about features of the Mini Convertible is its fabric roof, which takes just 18 seconds to open and 15 seconds to close at speeds of up to 30 kph. Additionally, the roof can be partially opened to mimic a sunroof, offering a versatile open-air driving experience. The boot space is also noteworthy, with 215 litres of space available with the roof up, and 160 litres with the roof down.
Mini Convertible Engine and Performance
Performance-wise, the Convertible S can go from 0-100 kph in just 6.9 seconds, making it slightly slower than its hatchback counterpart, the Cooper S, due to the additional weight of the fabric roof and folding mechanism. Similarly, the Convertible C takes 8.2 seconds to reach 100 kph.
Mini Convertible Design and Features
Inside, the Convertible mirrors the design of the Mini Cooper hatchback, featuring a centrally-mounted, circular 9.5-inch infotainment touchscreen that controls most vehicle functions. The new Convertible is offered in three trim levels in select markets. The Classic trim offers 16-inch wheels and part-faux-leather seats, while the Exclusive trim brings in 17-inch alloys and full faux-leather seating. The Sport trim is designed to mirror the sporty John Cooper Works variant, with 18-inch wheels, an aggressive body kit, and corduroy-trimmed seats. Paddle shifters are also included in the Sport variant for added driving dynamics.
Mini Convertible Plans for India
Although there is no official confirmation yet, the Mini Convertible is expected to arrive in India soon, following the footsteps of its predecessors. Mini has recently expanded its Indian lineup with the Mini Countryman Electric and the new Mini Cooper hatchback.
