The Tata Nexon EV has achieved a remarkable 5-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection in the latest round of Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash tests. This achievement places the Nexon EV among the safest electric vehicles on the market. The tests, conducted in May 2024, assessed both the Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR) variants of the Nexon EV. The Punch EV, another model from Tata, also secured a 5-star rating in the same round of testing.

Key Highlights :

  • Nexon EV scores 5 stars for both adult and child occupancy
  • Scores apply to both MR and LR variants
  • Punch EV also crash tested

Tata Nexon EV Impressive Safety Scores

In the BNCAP tests, the Nexon EV scored 29.86 points out of a possible 32 for adult occupant protection (AOP), earning it a 5-star rating. The electric SUV performed exceptionally well in the ‘Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test,’ scoring 14.26 out of 16 points. It also excelled in the ‘Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test,’ with a score of 15.60 out of 16 points.

For child occupant protection (COP), the Nexon EV achieved a dynamic score of 23.95 out of 24, a perfect score of 12 out of 12 for the child restraint system (CRS) installation, and 9 out of 13 points for vehicle assessment. Consistent Safety Across Variants

The results of the BNCAP crash tests apply to both the Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR) variants of the Nexon EV. This means that regardless of the variant chosen, customers can expect the same high level of safety.

Comparison with Global NCAP

While the Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP processes are quite similar, there are a few differences. One major difference is that the maximum score for AOP in Global NCAP is 34 points, compared to 32 points in Bharat NCAP. Despite these differences, the overall crash test protocols and rating assignments are quite comparable. This means that a 5-star rating in Bharat NCAP is just as commendable as one in Global NCAP.

Conclusion

The Tata Nexon EV’s impressive 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests underscores Tata Motors’ commitment to safety and innovation. Alongside the Punch EV, the Nexon EV sets a high standard for electric vehicle safety in India, making it a top choice for consumers seeking both performance and protection.
