Suzuki Swift Euro NCAP Crash Test Results

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): 67%

The Suzuki Swift received a 67% rating for adult occupant protection. During the frontal offset test, the car’s compartment remained stable, providing good protection for the knees and femurs of the driver and front passenger. However, the driver’s chest protection was weak, and the passenger’s chest protection was marginal. In frontal impact tests, the Swift scored 10.5 out of 16 points, 11.5 out of 16 points in lateral impact tests, and 4 out of 4 points in rear impact tests.

Child Occupancy Protection (COP): 65%

For child occupancy protection, the Swift scored 65%. The protection for 6-year-old and 10-year-old children was evaluated, resulting in 14.1 out of 24 points. The safety features scored 6 out of 13 points, and the child restraint systems scored 12 out of 12 points. The frontal offset and side barrier tests showed poor to weak protection for the neck and chest area, while head protection was adequate.

Safety Assist Systems: 62%

The Swift was rated 62% for its safety assist systems. The performance of its autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system was deemed adequate but rated poor when approaching a car head-on. The car includes seat belt reminders for the front and rear seats but lacks an occupant detection system in the rear seats, a requirement for higher scoring.

Vulnerable Road Users (VRU): 76%

The Suzuki Swift excelled in protecting vulnerable road users, scoring 76%. Euro NCAP found the AEB system’s response to pedestrians adequate and good for cyclists. However, the car does not offer protection against ‘dooring,’ where a car door opens suddenly into the path of an oncoming cyclist.

Europe Suzuki Swift vs India Suzuki Swift

It’s important to note that the Suzuki Swift sold in Europe is manufactured in Japan and includes six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, seat belt reminders, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as autonomous emergency braking, lane change assist, and driver fatigue detection. These features are not necessarily present in the India-made Maruti Swift.

AI Expect Verdict

The Suzuki Swift’s 3-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests highlights the car’s strengths and areas for improvement in safety. With adequate protection for most areas but some weaknesses in specific tests, the Swift shows a balanced performance in its safety evaluation.
