Skoda Auto India has announced the name of its first-ever compact SUV, set to launch by March 2025, as the “Kylaq.” The name was chosen through a public contest where the Kylaq emerged victorious from a selection of ten names. The name “Kylaq” is derived from the Sanskrit word for crystal, symbolizing purity and brilliance, and is inspired by Mount Kailash. Continuing Skoda’s tradition, the name starts with a “K” and ends with a “Q,” aligning with other popular models like the Kushaq and Kodiaq.

Skoda Kylaq Design and Features
The Skoda Kylaq is expected to bring a fresh yet familiar design language. Initial teasers suggest a split headlamp setup, a slatted grille, and clean lines with a kinked glasshouse, giving it a stylish and modern appearance. Built on the Volkswagen’s MQB A0 IN platform, the Kylaq will have a shorter wheelbase than the Kushaq, making it fit within the sub-4-metre segment. This compact design is ideal for urban driving while maintaining a rugged SUV look.
The Kylaq’s interior is expected to closely resemble that of the Kushaq but with more advanced features. Skoda might introduce a 360-degree camera and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite from the start, offering a premium driving experience in a compact package. These features are designed to enhance safety and convenience, making the Kylaq a strong contender in its segment.
Skoda Kylaq Performance and Powertrain
Under the hood, the Kylaq will be powered by Skoda’s 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, delivering 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque. This engine is known for its efficiency and performance, making it a suitable choice for both city and highway driving. Skoda Kylaq Expected Price and Rivals
In the highly competitive compact SUV segment, pricing plays a crucial role. Skoda is likely to price the Kylaq aggressively, aiming for a price range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). This competitive pricing strategy will help Skoda position the Kylaq as a value-for-money option with premium features. it is expected to compete effectively against rivals like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Brezza.
Skoda Naming Contest and Rewards
Skoda’s innovative approach to naming its new SUV through a public contest received an overwhelming response, with over 2 lakh entries and 24,000 unique names. The winner of the contest will be rewarded with the first unit of the Kylaq that comes off the production line. Additionally, 10 other winners will be treated to a visit to Skoda’s headquarters in Prague, where they will tour the Skoda Museum and the city. Skoda Auto India will announce the winners on its social media channels, adding excitement and engagement to the Kylaq’s launch.
