The new FASTag rules from NPCI effective today
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new FASTag rules,electronic tolling system, effective from August 1. These new rules will affect vehicle owners, especially those with FASTags issued over three years ago.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new regulations for the FASTag electronic tolling system, effective from August 1. These new rules will affect vehicle owners, especially those with FASTags issued over three years ago.
One of the significant changes is that FASTags older than five years must be replaced. This step ensures that the tags remain functional and up-to-date with the latest technology. Additionally, vehicle owners with FASTags issued between three and five years ago must update their Know Your Customer (KYC) information by October 31. This update ensures that the details associated with the FASTag are accurate and reflect the current owner’s information.
Another crucial requirement is linking FASTags to the vehicle’s registration and chassis (VIN) number. For new vehicles, owners are given 90 days from the date of purchase to complete this linking process. This measure helps in accurately identifying vehicles and streamlining toll payments.
FASTag providers also have new responsibilities. They must ensure that their vehicle databases are updated with accurate information, including clear photographs of the vehicle’s front and side profiles. Additionally, each FASTag must be linked to a mobile number for better communication with the owner.
Failing to comply with these new regulations may result in issues at toll plazas, such as tag suspension and subsequent delays. Therefore, NPCI urges all vehicle owners to act promptly to avoid any inconveniences.
