MG Cloud EV To Be Named as MG Windsor EV in India

MG Motor India is gearing up to introduce a new electric vehicle (EV) in India, named the MG Windsor EV. This CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) is based on the Wuling Cloud EV, which is popular overseas under MG’s parent company, SAIC. The Windsor EV will be positioned below the ZS EV in MG’s lineup, offering a more affordable option for EV enthusiasts. Set to compete with popular models like the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400, the Windsor EV is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh. The official reveal of the name and more details is scheduled for August 5.

MG’s latest teaser campaign invites viewers to decode the name of the new EV using scrambled letters. However, the name and logo trademarks filed by MG Motor months ago confirm that it will indeed be called the Windsor EV. The official announcement of the name is set for August 5.

MG Windsor Battery and Range Options

The MG Windsor EV, similar to the Wuling Cloud EV, offers two battery pack options internationally: a 37.9kWh and a 50.6kWh. These provide ranges of 360km and 460km, respectively. The EV is powered by a front-axle-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers 134hp. It’s not yet confirmed which battery options will be available in India.

MG Windsor Expected Price and Rivals

The MG Windsor EV resembles an MPV in shape and stance but accommodates only five passengers in two rows, effectively making it a large hatchback. Dubbed a ‘CUV’ (Compact Utility Vehicle), it is expected to be priced under Rs 20 lakh. This pricing places it below the ZS EV in MG’s portfolio and sets it up to compete with the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.
