Mercedes-Maybach SL 680: What’s New?
The Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series brings a fresh and opulent design to the already luxurious SL Roadster. The car’s front grille is adorned with thin vertical slats and is illuminated for a striking presence on the road. The redesigned front bumper and chrome embellishments further distinguish this model from its standard counterpart. Initially available in Garnet Red Metallic and Opalite White Magno, the SL 680 features a two-tone finish with an Obsidian Black hood, though buyers can request other color options.
Unique to the SL 680 are the Maybach logos displayed prominently on both the hood and the soft roof. Mercedes has paid special attention to detail, with claims that some of the logos on the hood are partly hand-made. The bonnet is also notable for its upright Mercedes star and a chromed fin running along its center. Inside, the car offers a new level of luxury with tanned, crystal white nappa leather seats and gleaming silver chrome trims. The seats are designed with aerodynamically efficient ‘scoops’ that display the Maybach emblem when the top is down. Additionally, the vehicle’s exhaust system has been optimized to reduce noise, and it features an advanced insulation and absorption package, along with a comfort-oriented suspension setup and soft engine mounts, ensuring a smooth and quiet ride.
Mercedes-Maybach SL 680: Powertrain
Under the hood, the Maybach SL 680 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which produces 585hp and 800Nm of torque. Unlike many modern vehicles, this model does not include hybrid assistance, focusing instead on pure performance. The engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission that delivers power to all four wheels via Mercedes’ 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. This powerful setup allows the SL 680 to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in just 4.1 seconds, underscoring its position as the sportiest Maybach to date.
Mercedes-Maybach SL 680: Price and Deliveries
While Mercedes has not yet disclosed the pricing for the Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, it is expected to be priced higher than the Mercedes-AMG SL 55, which currently retails at ₹2.44 crore (ex-showroom) in India. It remains unclear whether the SL 680 will be available in the Indian market. Deliveries are slated to begin in Europe in 2025, with other markets to follow.
