Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the launch of an all-electric C-Class sedan in 2026, marking a significant step in its electrification strategy. Alongside this, the German automaker will also unveil an all-electric GLC SUV around the same time. This announcement was made during Mercedes-Benz’s earnings call for the second quarter of 2024, indicating the brand’s strong focus on expanding its electric vehicle (EV) lineup.

Key Highlights:

  • All-electric C-Class sedan confirmed for 2026 launch.
  • Mercedes to unveil all-electric GLC SUV simultaneously.
  • Both models to be positioned in Mercedes’ ‘core luxury’ segment.
  • Mercedes aims to increase its top-end luxury car sales by 60% globally.
  • Mercedes-Benz Maybach EQS SUV set to launch in India on September 5, 2024.

The upcoming all-electric C-Class and GLC SUV will be part of Mercedes-Benz’s ‘core luxury’ segment, which currently includes models like the CLE and the E-Class. These electric versions are expected to bring advanced technology and a premium experience to the market, aligning with Mercedes’ strategy to cater to the growing demand for luxury EVs.

In addition to these models, Mercedes-Benz is also focusing on its entry-level lineup, which will feature the CLA coupe sedan, GLA, and GLB SUVs. These vehicles will be based on the new MMA platform and are expected to debut in 2025. The all-new CLA, previewed as a concept at the Munich Motor Show last year, will be the first to launch from this new platform.

During the earnings call, Mercedes-Benz revealed plans to increase the global share of its top-end luxury cars, including AMG models and the G-Class, by 60%. In India, the top-end vehicle (TEV) category, comprising cars priced above Rs 1.5 crore, has shown strong potential, contributing over 25% of Mercedes-Benz’s total sales volume in 2023. This trend is expected to continue in 2024 and beyond.

Despite its growing focus on EVs, Mercedes-Benz reassured its commitment to offering combustion-engined cars worldwide. For the Indian market, the next major launch will be the EQS Maybach electric SUV on September 5, 2024. Following this, the much-anticipated E-Class sedan will be introduced, along with other high-end models like the electric G-Class SUV and the updated AMG GT.
