Honda Beat Scooter Patented in India: Is a Launch Finally on the Horizon?

Honda has recently patented the Beat scooter in India, following the path of its international models like the NX125. The Beat scooter shares a key feature with a much-loved Indian model, the Honda Activa — its engine. This move raises hopes for its potential launch in India, though Honda has a history of patenting international offerings without bringing them to the local market.

Key Highlights:

  • Honda patents the Beat scooter in India, sharing its engine with the popular Honda Activa.
  • Powered by a 109.5cc engine, the Beat offers more power than the Activa.
  • Features include keyless ignition, anti-theft alarm, and USB charging port.
  • The scooter runs on 14-inch wheels, providing stability similar to the Yamaha Aerox 155.
  • Honda’s history of patenting international models without launch leaves the Beat’s future uncertain.

Honda Beat: Powered by a Familiar Engine

The Honda Beat is equipped with a 109.5cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 9hp at 7,500rpm and 9.2Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. Interestingly, this engine shares its bore and stroke dimensions with the Honda Activa, although the Beat offers higher output compared to Activa’s 7.8hp and 8.90Nm. This suggests that while both scooters share the same foundation, Honda has fine-tuned the Beat’s engine for more power.

Key Features of the Honda Beat

The Beat stands out with several advanced features, including:

  • Keyless Ignition: Available on top variants, this feature adds convenience and security.
  • Anti-Theft Alarm: Enhances the scooter’s security system.
  • USB Charger: A practical addition for on-the-go device charging.
  • 14-inch Wheels: Larger wheels, similar to those on the Yamaha Aerox 155, offer better stability.
  • LED Headlight and CBS: Adds to the safety and visibility of the scooter.

Practical Design and User-Friendly Dimensions

Unlike many Southeast Asian scooters with a spine section, the Honda Beat features a traditional flat floorboard, making it more practical for Indian riders. Its low seat height of 742mm and light kerb weight of 87/88kg (depending on the variant) ensure it remains accessible to a wide range of users.

Will Honda Break Tradition?

Honda has a history of patenting various international models in India, such as the Forza 350, Hawk 11, and CB750 Hornet, without introducing them to the Indian market. While it’s unclear whether the Honda Beat will break this pattern, its similarities to the Honda Activa and the rising popularity of scooters like the Yamaha Aerox 155 make its launch in India a possibility worth watching.
