Citroen India’s electric hatchback, the eC3, has recently undergone safety testing, with results revealing a concerning performance. Despite being equipped with front driver and passenger airbags, belt load limiter, and a seat belt reminder, the eC3 received a dismal zero-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test.
NCAP Safety Ratings and Features
In the adult occupant tests, the eC3 scored 20.86 out of 34 points, while in the child occupant protection tests, it scored 10.55 out of 49 points. The lack of side head protection, even as an optional feature, resulted in the side pole impact test not being performed. However, GNCAP noted that the protection provided to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck was commendable. Despite the low overall score, the bodyshell of the eC3 was rated as stable.
Future Safety Enhancements
Citroen has announced plans to enhance the safety features of all its vehicles, including the eC3, starting from the second half of 2024. These enhancements will include the addition of six airbags, ISOFIX, and rear seat belt reminders, aiming to improve the overall safety of their vehicles.
Current Safety Features
Currently, the eC3 comes equipped with ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, rear doors manual child lock, high-speed alert system, and speed-sensitive auto door lock. These features are aimed at ensuring a basic level of safety for occupants.
Despite the disappointing safety rating, Citroen’s commitment to improving safety standards in its vehicles is a step in the right direction. The implementation of additional safety features in the future models will be crucial in enhancing the overall safety of Citroen vehicles on Indian roads.
