Citroen Basalt Coupe-SUV Powertrain and Specifications

The Citroen Basalt Coupe-SUV will be powered by two 1.2-litre petrol engine options. The first is an 82hp naturally aspirated engine producing 115Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The second option is a 110hp turbo-petrol engine, which offers more power and is available with a 6-speed manual gearbox (producing 190Nm) or a 6-speed torque converter automatic (producing 205Nm). Citroen claims fuel-efficiency figures of 18kpl for the naturally aspirated petrol, 19.5kpl for the turbo-petrol manual, and 18.7kpl for the turbo-petrol automatic.

Citroen Basalt Coupe-SUV Features and Safety

The Basalt Coupe-SUV promises a comprehensive feature set, particularly in its top-spec variants. Key features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15W wireless smartphone charger, connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, a front armrest with storage space, and adjustable thigh support for the rear bench seat.

Safety has not been overlooked, with all variants of the Basalt equipped with six airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), hill-hold assist, and a tyre pressure monitoring system as standard. However, the Basalt does miss out on some premium features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, powered front seats, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite, which are available in some rival models.

Basalt Coupe-SUV Rivals and Market Positioning

The Citroen Basalt Coupe-SUV is poised to take on the upcoming Tata Curvv, which also launches on the same day. It will compete in the crowded midsize SUV segment, going up against well-established models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Honda Elevate. With its unique coupe-SUV design and feature-packed variants, the Basalt aims to offer a fresh alternative to the more conventional midsize SUVs currently available.

As the automotive market eagerly awaits the Basalt’s launch, Citroen is positioning this new model as a stylish and modern choice for consumers looking for something different in the midsize SUV segment. With competitive pricing expected, the Basalt could make a significant impact.
