Nissan has finally introduced the all-new Patrol SUV, codenamed Y63, which is set to go on sale later this year. With a completely revamped platform, a fresh design, and cutting-edge technology, the new Patrol is poised to make a significant impact in the global SUV market. This highly anticipated vehicle will also be available in North America under the Nissan Armada name. Sharing many features with the stylish Infiniti QX80, the Patrol is designed to cater to a broad range of markets. Here are five key highlights:

The new Patrol’s design takes a departure from its predecessor, opting for a more rugged and boxy appearance. The front features a wide grille with a piano black finish, vertically positioned headlamps with E-shaped LED DRLs, and a chrome-accented bumper that bears a resemblance to the Range Rover. The side profile combines angular and rounded surfaces, with a large glasshouse and a floating roof effect, thanks to the upward sweep of the rear window. At the rear, the SUV boasts vertically aligned tail-lamps connected by a horizontal LED light bar, giving it a distinct and modern look.

Inside, the Patrol Y63 offers a luxurious and tech-savvy experience. The cabin is adorned with soft-touch materials, faux brushed aluminium trim, and various upholstery options. Two 14.3-inch displays dominate the dashboard, handling instrumentation and infotainment duties. The traditional gear lever has been replaced with buttons for gear selection, adding a modern touch to the center console. Rear passengers benefit from 12.8-inch screens that allow streaming and gaming via HDMI or USB connections.
The SUV also includes a Klipsch 12-speaker premium audio system, wireless charging, USB-C ports across all rows, a head-up display, gesture control, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, a powered tailgate, and eight-way power-adjustable front seats, ensuring a comfortable and convenient driving experience.
Nissan Patrol SUV: Powertrain Details
Under the hood, the new Patrol is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, producing 425hp and 700Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and features full-time four-wheel drive, making it well-suited for both on-road and off-road adventures. The powertrain is a significant upgrade from the previous generation’s 5.6-litre V8 engine, offering more power and efficiency.
Nissan Patrol SUV: Platform and Off-Road Gear
While Nissan has not disclosed specific details about the platform, the Y63 is built on an evolved version of the previous-gen Y62 Patrol’s platform. Higher variants are equipped with adaptive air suspension and a range of terrain modes, including Standard, Sand, Rock, Mud, Eco, and Sport. The Pro-4X variant, designed for off-road enthusiasts, features 20-inch all-terrain tyres, a metal skid plate, an electronic rear locking differential, and enhanced ground clearance.
Nissan Patrol SUV: Plan for India
Nissan had previously considered launching the Patrol Y62 in India but ultimately decided against it. However, the new Patrol Y63, with its advanced features and rugged design, could be a strong contender against the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in the Indian market if Nissan chooses to bring it to the country.
