What’s Special in Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT?

The MT-09 Y-AMT features three shifting modes: two automatic (D and D+) and one manual. Mechanically, it remains identical to the standard MT-09, save for the gearbox. The bike is powered by a liquid-cooled, 890cc, three-cylinder engine that delivers 119 hp at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox in both manual and Y-AMT variants. The Y-AMT version has a kerb weight of 196 kg, slightly heavier than the base model’s 193 kg.

The suspension setup on the MT-09 Y-AMT includes a fully adjustable USD fork and a monoshock with adjustable preload and rebound damping. The braking system comprises a 298mm dual disc setup at the front and a 245mm single disc at the rear. The bike also features advanced riding aids such as traction control, ABS, slide control, wheelie control, and cruise control.

The standout feature of the Y-AMT is its gearbox, equipped with actuators for shifting and clutch operations. This allows automatic gear shifting, enabling riders to focus on acceleration, braking, and stopping without manual intervention. For those who prefer manual control, a seesaw-style gear on the left-hand switch cube allows for manual shifts.

Riders can switch between three modes of shifting using the handlebar controls. The plus and minus toggle on the left-hand switch cube allows for manual gear changes when desired.

While the Yamaha MT-09 Y-AMT will debut in Japan, its introduction in India seems unlikely in the near future. Yamaha previously sold the MT-09 in India, but it was discontinued due to poor sales and limited brand awareness.
