Despite being secretive about its projects, recent podcast from Autocar India confirm that the 250cc engine is indeed in development.

New Royal Enfield 250cc Engine in the Works
A few years ago, there were rumors about Royal Enfield working on a 250cc platform, but they faded away. Now, the project has been officially greenlit and is progressing. The new 250cc engine, internally known as the V platform, will focus on affordable entry-level models. It will have a simple design to keep costs low, resembling the 350cc air-cooled engines rather than the more advanced liquid-cooled Sherpa 450.
Hybrid Technology Exploration
Interestingly, Royal Enfield is also exploring hybrid technology with the new 250cc engine. Although still in the experimental phase, this move could help the company meet stricter future emission standards.

Royal Enfield is no stranger to 250cc bikes. In the 1950s and early 60s, it sold models like the Clipper and Clipper Range, which were powered by a 250cc single-cylinder engine. This engine was later used in the original Continental and Continental GT with improved performance. The new 250cc platform is expected to be ready by 2026-27.
