What’s New in the Second-Generation MG ZS?

The new MG ZS has undergone a significant facelift, starting with its exterior. The front fascia now boasts a new octagonal grille, a sportier-looking bumper, and redesigned headlamps. The bonnet has been elongated, giving the SUV a more dynamic stance, while the nose appears flatter, similar to the design language seen on the MG3 hatchback. The MG emblem has been repositioned on top of the front bumper, a shift from its traditional spot on the grille.

At the rear, the ZS receives new tail-lamps, a redesigned tailgate, and a new bumper. Notably, the registration plate has been moved to the center of the tailgate, departing from the bumper-mounted placement on the previous model. The overall window area is now larger, contributing to a more spacious feel, while the new alloy wheel design adds a fresh touch to the vehicle’s profile.

Inside, the new MG ZS is packed with technological upgrades and comfort features. It comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a redesigned center console, and new AC vents. The steering wheel has been updated for a more modern feel, and the SUV is equipped with a 7-inch digital driver’s display. Comfort is enhanced with leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. The driver’s seat is six-way electrically adjustable with lumbar support, and the rear passengers benefit from privacy glass.

Performance and Pricing: Powertrain and Market Positioning

Under the hood, the new MG ZS is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine delivering 102hp. When paired with a 136hp electric motor, the combined power output reaches an impressive 196hp and 343Nm of torque. This setup allows the SUV to accelerate from 0-100kph in just 8.7 seconds, with a top speed of 167kph, making it both efficient and exhilarating to drive.

Pricing for the new MG ZS starts at £21,995 (approximately Rs 24.39 lakh) in the UK. For context, the current MG Astor, which the new ZS will eventually replace, is priced between Rs 9.98 lakh and Rs 18.08 lakh in India.
