Maruti Suzuki Hustler will be direct competitor with Tata Punch.
Maruti Suzuki, a brand synonymous with reliability and affordability in the Indian automotive market, is gearing up to expand its lineup with a new mini SUV, tentatively named the “Hustler.” Inspired by the success of the Suzuki Hustler in Japan, this upcoming model promises to offer an intriguing option for Indian consumers. Recently, the Hustler was spied on testing in India, with spy shots captured by DelhiSuperCars, indicating that the car may soon make its debut in the Indian market.
Maruti Suzuki Hustler: Key Details you should Know
- Fuel-Efficient Engine: The Hustler is expected to feature a small, fuel-efficient petrol engine, possibly a 660cc unit similar to its Japanese counterpart.
- Spacious and Practical Design: Maruti Suzuki is likely to focus on maximizing interior space, making it ideal for Indian buyers who prioritize roominess.
- Unique Styling: The Mini SUV boxy design, round headlights, and retro-modern charm set it apart from other vehicles in its segment.
- Tech-Savvy Features: Anticipated features include a touchscreen infotainment system, rear parking sensors, and an array of safety features.
- Affordable Pricing: Expected to be priced competitively, potentially under ₹5 lakh, the Hustler could undercut its rivals while offering more style and features.
The Maruti Suzuki Mini SUV appears poised to compete head-on with the likes of the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter in the subcompact SUV segment. The spy shots reveal a Suzuki Hustler test mule without any camouflage, although the Suzuki logo and Hustler branding were masked to conceal its identity. The test vehicle sported a white color with a contrasting dark gray roof, blending into the pillars and the top half of the rear tailgate. The Hustler also features several crossover-inspired elements, such as roof rails and all-around body cladding.
While the Tata Punch has been well-received in India as a subcompact SUV, the Hustler’s boxy design language—reminiscent of the Jimny but with lower ground clearance and a more compact form—has generated mixed reactions. Despite its smaller size, the spy shots suggest that the Hustler will be a four-seater, staying true to its Kei car origins, which emphasize efficiency and practicality.
Maruti Suzuki Hustler Expected Price and Rivals
Maruti Suzuki is known for its aggressive pricing strategies, and the Hustler is expected to follow suit, potentially launching with a price tag below ₹5 lakh. Its primary competitors would include popular models like the Hyundai Exter, Tata Punch, Renault Kwid, and even Maruti’s own Ignis. There is also speculation that Maruti may eventually replace the Ignis with the Hustler.
However, it’s worth noting that there is a possibility that the Hustler might not launch in India at all. Suzuki has previously tested global models in India without ever bringing them to market. More details are expected to emerge as the launch date approaches.
