Tata Curvv Hyperion Confirmed: 1.2 TGDi Petrol engine

Tata Motors has officially announced that the upcoming Tata Curvv Hyperion coupe-SUV will debut with a new turbocharged direct injection petrol engine, called the ‘Hyperion’. This engine, first showcased at Auto Expo 2023, marks a significant milestone as it will be the first model to feature this advanced technology. The Hyperion engine is also expected to power other compact Tata vehicles in the future.

Key Highlights:

  • 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with 125hp and 225Nm torque.
  • E20 fuel compatibility for the new engine.
  • All-aluminium construction with advanced technologies.
  • Tata Curvv prices to be revealed on August 7.
  • Expected price range: Rs 12 lakh to 20 lakh; EV variant: Rs 16 lakh to 22 lakh.

Tata Curvv Hyperion: Engine Details

The Tata Curvv’s new 1.2-litre TGDi Hyperion engine is a three-cylinder unit with a displacement of 1,198cc. It delivers an impressive 125hp at 5,000rpm and a torque of 225Nm between 1,700 and 3,500rpm. This performance is a noticeable upgrade, offering 5hp more power and 55Nm more torque compared to the engine in the Tata Nexon. The enhanced output is crucial for managing the additional weight due to the Curvv’s extended wheelbase.

The Hyperion engine boasts several advanced features, including an all-aluminium construction, variable valve timing technology, a variable oil pump, and an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head. Notably, it includes a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger, which ensures better torque delivery from lower RPMs, enhancing acceleration and overall driving experience.

Tata’s existing 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, available in the lower trims of the Curvv, has been noted for its lack of refinement and performance. However, the Hyperion engine promises improved refinement, better performance, and greater fuel efficiency, setting a new standard for Tata’s powertrains.

Tata Curvv Launch and Expected  Price

The Curvv is set to launch with multiple powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, and electric variants. The diesel variant will feature the familiar 1.5-litre engine from the Nexon, while the EV version will offer two battery options. Tata Motors is also equipping the Curvv with several segment-first features, adding to its appeal. The pricing announcement on August 7 will reveal the full range of options, with expectations for the petrol and diesel variants to range between Rs 12 lakh and 20 lakh, while the electric version may be priced from Rs 16 lakh to 22 lakh.
