The BMW R20 Concept reveal against the stunning backdrop of Villa d’Este at Lake Como. This motorcycle embodies the pinnacle of craftsmanship and showcases a design that is both expressive and cool, meticulously refined to the smallest detail.
As part of the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, known for its elegance and historical significance in showcasing extraordinary vehicles, BMW Motorrad has chosen to spotlight the legendary air-oil cooled Big Boxer engine as a central sculptural element.
Markus Flasch, Head of BMW Motorrad, describes the concept, stating, “The BMW R20 concept is a mechanical masterpiece, with the Big Boxer at its heart. It is distinctly BMW Motorrad.”
BMW R20 Concept; Bold Design
Authenticity, class, and coolness define the BMW R20 concept. This motorcycle exudes a powerful presence with a casual gentlemanly style, embodying typical BMW Motorrad attributes: classic design, excellent engineering, and thrilling mechanics.
The centerpiece of the BMW R20 concept is its Big Boxer engine, which delivers great riding pleasure. The expressive tank resembles a sculpture, while the rear is stripped down to its essentials to highlight the motorcycle’s clean lines and power.
The chassis has been completely redeveloped, featuring a black double-loop main frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel tubes. The BMW R20 concept combines tradition and modernity with a 17×6.25-inch black disc wheel at the rear, paired with a 17-inch spoke wheel at the front. The BMW Paralever, executed in a new two-arm variant, ensures balanced drive torque. The suspension features fully adjustable Öhlins Blackline components at the front and rear, providing a smooth ride. Radially mounted brake calipers from ISR ensure precise deceleration.
BMW R20 Concept Engine Details
The air-oil-cooled Big Boxer engine, now with a displacement of 2,000 cc, remains the focal point of the BMW R20 concept. New cylinder head covers, a belt cover, and an oil cooler have been developed for the concept bike, enhancing its visual appeal.
The BMW R20 concept is a bold interpretation of BMW Motorrad’s DNA, combining modern technical elements with a classic roadster design. Its oversized proportions and minimalistic aesthetic give it an unmistakable character, taking the Big Boxer Culture to a new level.
