KTM enthusiasts have long awaited a worthy successor to the iconic RC 8 R sportbike, and their patience has finally been rewarded with the announcement of the 2025 KTM 990 RC R. While the limited edition track-only RC 8C was a tantalizing taste of what could come, the 990 RC R promises to deliver a thrilling experience both on the street and on the track.
2025 KTM 990 RC R Performance and Design
Developed using insights from KTM’s GP racing program, the 990 RC R boasts a potent LC8c Twin engine, delivering a peak output of 126 hp. This powerplant, shared with the 990 Duke, offers a thrilling ride with peak torque of 103 nm, albeit arriving higher in the rev range at 10,500 rpm. Expected top-speed of 150 kmph. The engine is complemented by a new ergonomically crafted stainless steel muffler and a six-speed transmission that can be set to a race-shift pattern as standard.
The chassis is a steel frame engineered for stability during acceleration and agility at lower speeds, with a weight bias towards the front. Wind tunnel-tested aerodynamic wings enhance stability during braking and cornering, ensuring a confident ride at all times. The fuel tank’s design promotes a comfortable riding position, further enhanced by adjustable footrests to accommodate various body shapes and riding styles.

Features and Specifications
The 990 RC R comes equipped with WP APEX open cartridge suspension and lightweight cast aluminum wheels. While the prototype sports Pirelli Diablo Superbike tires, the production model will feature Michelin rubber. Full specifications will be disclosed in early 2025, along with pricing details.

KTM plans to start production of the 990 RC R in early 2025, with the motorcycle being both street-legal and available as a track edition.
