MG introduced the MG Cyberster EV to India.
MG Motor India has unveiled the Cyberster for the first time in our country and has announced plans to introduce a new network of premium outlets for its more upscale offerings. While the specific models to be sold from these premium showrooms have not been confirmed, the Cyberster is a likely candidate. This electric vehicle (EV) marks MG’s debut in the electric sports car segment and is slated to go on sale in international markets later this year.
Key Highlights of the MG Cyberster:
- The top-spec Cyberster EV is equipped with a 77kWh battery, delivering 535hp and offering up to 580km of range.
- It is positioned to compete with the next-generation Porsche 718 range in international markets.
- The “affordable” sportscar is expected to be priced around Rs 53 lakh in global markets.
MG Motor unveiled the convertible EV in 2023, offering two battery pack and motor options. The base model features a 64kWh battery with a claimed range of 520km, powering a single rear axle-mounted 308hp motor. On the other hand, the range-topping Cyberster boasts a 77kWh battery pack with a CLTC-rated range of 580km, powering two electric motors that deliver a combined 535hp and 725Nm of peak torque. This allows the 1,985kg dual-motor AWD variant to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 3.2 seconds.
The Cyberster, designed to rival the next-gen Porsche 718 lineup (including all-electric versions), is slightly larger than the current Boxster. It measures 4,533mm in length, 1,912mm in width, and 1,328mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,689mm.
MG Motor is expected to reveal the prices for the Cyberster in international markets by mid-2024, claiming it to be an “affordable” sportscar with an expected starting price of around GBP 50,000 (approximately Rs 53 lakh), which is competitive even by Indian standards.
In addition to the Cyberster, MG Motor has also showcased the 4 EV hatchback and the 5 EV estate at the event in India. Both models, previously showcased at Auto Expo 2023, share several styling cues. The 4 offers 51kWh and 64kWh battery options, with WLTP ranges of 350km and 452km, respectively, while the larger 5 is powered by a 61.1kWh battery with a claimed range of 402km.
