Tata Motors has confirmed that the petrol variant of the Tata Punch is set to undergo a mid-life facelift in the coming year. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicles Unit, announced this development during the launch of the Punch EV. He stated, “As far as the upgrade of the Punch is concerned, you know that it was launched in October 2021. Typical facelift period is three years. So, we should be expecting a facelift for the ICE version only in mid-2025, or slightly later.”
Tata Punch Facelift: Exterior Design
The facelift for the Tata Punch is expected to incorporate design elements from the latest Tata models, differentiating it from the Punch EV. Similar to the recent facelifts of the Nexon and Harrier, Tata Motors will likely refresh the SUV’s styling, including changes to the front bumper, grille, headlamps, and bonnet to give the small SUV a rejuvenated appearance.
In line with the differentiation strategy seen in the Nexon series, the facelifted Punch and Punch EV will feature distinct sets of styling elements and unique features. Chandra emphasized that there will be variations in features between the petrol and EV versions of the Punch.
Tata Punch Facelift: Interior Design
Drawing a parallel with the Nexon series, where the Nexon EV boasts exclusive features, the Punch EV is expected to have its own set of distinct offerings. The Nexon EV, for instance, features a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, the Arcade.ev app suite for streaming OTT platforms, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and other advanced functionalities not found in the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) Nexon.
While the specific details of the differences between the Punch facelift and Punch EV are yet to be revealed, Chandra’s statement implies that feature distinctions will be present, similar to what is observed in the Nexon series.
Tata Punch Facelift: Powertrain
Despite the anticipated cosmetic and feature updates, no changes to the powertrain are expected for the Punch facelift. The current Punch model is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine delivering 86hp and 113Nm, coupled with a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The availability of a CNG option will likely remain unchanged in the facelifted version.
